Why You Shouldn't Drink Tap Water

Opening:

To most people, tap water is just ordinary  water. How is it that tap water can be harmful to us? People shower with tap water, use it to wash their hands, and some even drink tap water.

While this is true, many aren’t aware of what exactly is found in tap water, and what the consequences of too much tap water exposure can mean.

What’s In Tap Water?

While many think that tap water is just water and nothing else, this isn’t exactly true.

First off, tap water is extremely unsanitary. The pipes in which tap water travels through are DISGUSTING! This alone would make you question the cleanliness of tap water, but there is more that needs to be said.

Along with unsanitary pipes, tap water also contains various compounds such as synthetic fluoride, atrazine, birth control, and various pharmaceutical drugs…

Even if we aren’t drinking tap water, our skin absorbs everything we put on it. So exposure to tap water means you may be absorbing these toxins.

The Dangers Of Tap Water

Exposure to all these different toxins may lead to some adverse health effects.

Potential side effects include:

  • Endocrine Disruption
  • Infertility
  • Skin Irritation
  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Liver Damage
  • Kidney Damage
  • Gastrointestinal illness
  • Neurological disorders

What Can We Do?

Now that you see what can be found in tap water, as well as the threats it poses to your health, you can begin to understand how constant exposure may not be the most optimal thing for us.

The good news is that there are ways to mitigate exposure to tap water.

The most effective, yet expensive option is to look into getting a whole-home water filtration system. If you are someone that can do this, then fantastic. You won’t have to worry about tap water exposure whatsoever.

With that being said, many people can’t immediately afford this, which is completely understandable. The good news is that there are other ways to deal with tap water.

The most cost-effective strategy is to invest in a shower filter. Showering in tap water is where many get the bulk of their tap water exposure. So investing in a shower filter (they aren’t that expensive), can be a fantastic way to mitigate exposure.

Another tip to consider is that if you are getting tap water exposure, usually the hotter the water the worse it is. Warm water is much more likely to contain higher amounts of contaminants, so cold water will be your friend in that instance.

Also making sure your health is in order will be important. That way your body can detox from any potential pathogens, this is a free way to prevent any potential dangers. When our bodies are burdened with too many toxins, our liver is not able to properly filter them out.

Closing

To conclude, avoiding tap water is definitely something you should consider. While it may seem perfectly harmless to most of the general population, with some even drinking it, there can be some unfortunate side effects that goes along with constant tap water exposure.

The key is to be aware of the issue, and then to try you absolute best to avoid tap water as much as you can.
